Recipe for pasta with tomato sauce:

Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) pasta
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz/400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Parmesan cheese (optional), for serving
- Fresh basil leaves (optional), for garnish

Instructions:
1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
4. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
5. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little bit of water to thin it out.
6. Once the sauce is ready, pour it over the cooked pasta and toss to coat the pasta evenly.
7. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves, if desired.
